Shousugiban – fire-treated wood

Shousugiban is an old variant of wood preservation. The Shou Sugi Ban process protects the wood from rot and insects. Through the controlled charring of the outer layer of wood, the material is preserved. The coal thus forms a natural protection against fungi or vermin.
